A Free Homeschool Typing Curriculum
TypeRockets gives homeschool families a complete, free typing curriculum: 60 lessons, mini games, timed tests with certificates, and a Parent Dashboard that tracks every child on the same device.
A 12-week plan
| Weeks | Lessons | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | 1–7 | Home row |
| 3–4 | 8–14 | Top row |
| 5–6 | 15–21 | Bottom row |
| 7–8 | 22–27 | Capitals and numbers |
| 9–10 | 28–30 | Punctuation |
| 11–12 | 31–36 | Words, sentences and speed |
| 13–16 | 37–55 | Letter combos, symbols and paragraphs |
| Optional | 56–60 | Number pad (ten-key) |
Younger children can take twice as long. That is perfectly fine.
Several kids, one computer
Add a profile for each child. The Parent Dashboard shows each one's lessons, WPM, accuracy, practice time and tricky keys.
Record keeping
Use the printable typing test certificate for portfolios, and download progress as a file from the dashboard settings.
Tracking progress and record keeping
Many homeschool families need simple records. The Parent Dashboard shows lessons passed, stars, best WPM, accuracy and practice minutes for each child, and every typing test can be printed as a certificate with the date, speed and accuracy. A simple portfolio idea: print one certificate per month and keep it in a folder, so you can see growth over the year.
Teaching several ages at once
Give each child their own profile on the shared computer. Younger kids can spend five minutes on the home row while older siblings work on punctuation or the paragraph lessons. The story books are a nice shared reward: a younger child can type Rocky's First Launch while an older one types Mystery of the Missing Keys.
FAQ
Can I use TypeRockets as a full typing curriculum?
Yes. The 60 lessons take kids from the home row through punctuation and full sentences.
