Privacy Policy

The short version
Kids never create accounts and never give us an email address. On the free plan, profiles (a nickname and an avatar) and all progress stay in your browser and are never sent to us. If a parent or teacher chooses a Pro plan, the grown-up signs in with their own email, and the nickname, avatar and typing progress for their kids or students are stored on our servers so they can be used on other devices and in reports. We never sell data. TypeRockets does not show ads today.
Children's privacy (COPPA)
TypeRockets is designed for children under 13. In line with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not ask children for their full name, email address, phone number, address, photos or location, and kids cannot message other users. We ask kids to use a first name or nickname only.
- Family Pro: the parent creates the account, adds kid profiles and turns on sync. That is the parent's choice and consent.
- Classroom Pro: a teacher creates the class and students join with a class code and a nickname. Schools may give consent on behalf of parents for this educational use, as COPPA allows. Only that teacher can see the class's progress, and we use it only to provide the service to the school.
A parent can review or delete their child's synced data at any time in the Parent Dashboard (deleting a profile deletes it from our servers) or by emailing us. Teachers can remove a student, which deletes that student's class data. Parents of students can ask the teacher or email us.
What we collect
- Free plan, no account: nothing personal. Nicknames, avatars, lesson stars, typing speed, accuracy, key statistics, badges and settings are saved in your browser's localStorage.
- Grown-up accounts (Pro): your email address, used to sign in with a one-time link and to tell you about your account. If you opt in, we use it for a weekly progress email (off by default).
- Synced kid or student profiles: nickname, avatar emoji and typing progress (lessons, stars, speed, accuracy, key statistics, badges, practice time). Student profiles also get a random device token so the student's own device can update progress.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store card numbers. We store a Stripe customer ID, the plan, its status and renewal date.
- Pro updates list: if you give us your email for updates, we store it with the role you chose (parent, teacher or homeschool) and use it only to email you about TypeRockets.
Who processes data for us
Supabase (database and sign-in), Stripe (payments) and Vercel (website hosting) process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security and reliability. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies or analytics trackers.
Advertising
TypeRockets does not show ads right now. If we add ads in the future to help keep the site free, this is how they will work:
- Where: only on reference pages for grown-ups (guides, the blog and keyboard key, fact and symbol pages). Never inside lessons, typing games, story books, practice or the typing test.
- Non-personalized only: because TypeRockets is directed to children, every ad request is tagged for child-directed (child age) treatment. Google then turns off personalized (interest-based) ads and remarketing and applies its ad protections for children.
- Google as a third party: Google is a third-party vendor that may use cookies or similar technology to serve contextual ads, cap how often an ad appears, measure ads and prevent fraud. Learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- No personal info for ads: we never share kid nicknames, progress or account details with advertisers.
- Ad-free plans: Family Pro and Classroom Pro never show ads.
Parents and teachers can reach us any time about ads or privacy at hello@typerockets.com.
Cookies and local storage
TypeRockets saves kid profiles and progress in your browser's localStorage so the games work without an account. Grown-up sign-in uses a secure session stored by Supabase. You can clear this data any time in your browser settings (that also deletes free-plan progress on this device). See our cookie policy.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep account and synced data while your plan is active. Delete a kid profile or class at any time and it is removed from our servers. To close your account and delete everything, email hello@typerockets.com. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
