What this lesson teaches

Ring fingers reach up to W and O.

Tips for grown-ups

  • Remind your child to keep fingers on the home row between keys.
  • Accuracy first. Speed comes with repetition.
  • Replaying a lesson for 3 stars is great practice.
  • Track progress in the Parent Dashboard.

About the Top Row Takeoff unit

The top row adds the vowels E, I, O and U, which unlock almost every English word. Each reach goes up and slightly left, then straight back to the home row. Kids who return home after every key make far fewer mistakes later.

How to reach the new keys

  • W is one row up. Reach your left ring finger up and a little left from S, then come straight back home.
  • O is one row up. Reach your right ring finger up and a little left from L, then come straight back home.

Real words you can type after this lesson: for, you, was, our, out, how, old, two, way, who, too, wife, wide, to.
