What Does the End Key Do?
End jumps the cursor to the end of the line you are on. On a web page, it jumps to the very bottom.
Home goes to the start, End goes to the end. Easy to remember!
Where is the End key?
The highlighted key is the End key on a typical Windows laptop keyboard, with a number pad on the right. Keyboards vary a little by brand.
What the End key does
- End: end of the current line, so you can keep typing where you left off.
- Ctrl + End: very end of the whole document.
- Shift + End: select from the cursor to the end of the line.
- On a web page: jump to the bottom, where links like "next page" often live.
Windows, Mac and Chromebook
Windows
Labeled End. On some laptops press Fn + Right arrow. With Num Lock off, keypad 1 also works as End.
Mac
No End key on MacBooks. Use Command + Right arrow for the end of a line, Command + Down arrow for the end of a document, and fn + Right arrow to scroll to the bottom of a page.
Chromebook
Search + Right arrow goes to the end of the line, and Ctrl + Alt + Down arrow goes to the bottom of a page.
Which finger presses it?
Lift your right hand and press End with your pointer or middle finger.
Fun fact
Home and End are opposites, and so are their shortcuts: Ctrl + Home goes to the very start and Ctrl + End goes to the very end.
